The German Fountain, which is the last artifact built in the Hippodrome Square, dates back to 1898. The occasion underlying the construction of the Fountain was the official visit of the German Emperor who had the fountain built, particularly in acknowledgement of the hospitality of Ottomon administrators when he visitied the Empire. The Fountain was initially constructed in Germany and reassembled in the Hippodrome after having been sent to Istanbul via train.
